On October 10, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that all women workers in government, private offices and schools across the state will receive a public holiday on Karva Chauth.
Dhami posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, wishing “heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all maternal power on this auspicious festival.” He praised Karva Chauth as a symbol of love, sacrifice and perseverance, adding that the holiday lets women observe the fast with full devotion and enjoy time with their families.
Karva Chauth is most celebrated by married Hindu women. The day involves a nirjala fast—no food or water—till the moon is seen, after which the fast is broken. The festival underscores friendships and blessings for long, healthy marriages.
“This holiday is a tribute to our Matri Shakti,” Dhami said. “It honors the dedication and love women bring to their families and society, giving them the chance to focus on their faith and relations without work worries.”
In another development, Dhami met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi. He praised the ministry for successful GST reforms and thanked it for continued support to Uttarakhand. The CM also revealed that detailed project reports are ready for overhauling storm‑water drainage in the state’s ten most rain‑affected districts. The upgrade is estimated to cost ₹8,589.47 crore.
