Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday for unveiling two large‑scale agricultural projects. In a post on the social‑media app X, Dhami called the launch a historic milestone that will bring prosperity and dignity to farmers across India.
Modi announced the Pradhan Mantri Dhan‑Dhanya Krishi Yojana and the Dalhan Aatmanirbharta Mission later that day. The two plans target domestic pulse production and improve the entire farm chain—from irrigation and storage to crop diversity. The government is putting forward a combined budget of about ₹35,440 crore to support these initiatives.
“We are opening a new chapter for the country’s food producers,” Modi said during his address at the special Krishi programme. The schemes aim to strengthen self‑reliance and boost the welfare of farmers.
The launch coincided with the birth anniversaries of two revered Indian leaders, Jayaprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh, both of whom made major contributions to rural development and democratic values. Modi took the opportunity to honor them and highlighted how current reforms contrast with past administrations that he said lacked vision for agriculture.
According to Modi, previous Congress‑led governments let the agricultural system weaken due to disjointed policies and neglect. He emphasised that his BJP government has introduced reforms that will bring measurable results for farmers.
The new schemes are expected to create thousands of opportunities in rural India, improving irrigation infrastructure, storage facilities, and crop diversity. The focus on self‑reliance and farmer welfare highlights the government’s commitment to reviving India’s essential agricultural sector.
