Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Inspects Cloudburst Damage in Chamoli
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami rushed to the disaster-hit areas in Raipur and Mussoorie on Thursday. He personally checked the relief and rescue efforts after a massive cloudburst wreaked havoc in Chamoli district. Heavy rains triggered the chaos, leaving over 200 people affected.
Earlier that day, Dhami reviewed the damage from the Emergency Operations Centre in Dehradun. The cloudburst struck late Wednesday night, causing widespread destruction across the state due to relentless monsoon rains.
Talking to reporters, the CM shared the latest updates on the Chamoli cloudburst disaster. "Around 35 houses got damaged in the cloudburst," he said. "About 20 people suffered injuries, and 14 others are still missing. We’ve affected 200 lives in total from last night’s incident in Chamoli."
Dhami assured that all rescue teams have reached the spot. District Magistrate (DM) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) are leading operations on the ground. Injured victims are already in hospitals, with the most serious cases heading to AIIMS Rishikesh for better care. Teams from NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and local police are working non-stop on rescue missions. They’re also moving people to safer spots and fixing blocked roads quickly.
To stay prepared, Dhami ordered all districts, NDRF, and SDRF to remain on high alert throughout September until the monsoon ends. With the popular Char Dham Yatra underway, he urged pilgrims to check IMD weather forecasts before starting their journey. "Plan your Char Dham Yatra wisely based on IMD advisories," he added, highlighting the risks from ongoing heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand.
Dhami pushed for faster relief work in the cloudburst-affected areas. He made sure aid materials reach victims right away and prioritized clearing blocked roads. He also directed quick fixes for power and water supply, telling district officials to keep a close watch and provide every bit of help needed. All departments must stay ready for any emergency, he stressed.
In the latest from Chamoli, about 10 people remain trapped under debris from the sudden cloudburst. Rescue teams have so far pulled out two women and a child, all injured. SDRF and police rushed them to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment. Efforts continue amid the monsoon chaos in the hilly region.
