Uttarakhand CM Dhami lays emphasis on indigenous products

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took time out on Thursday to chat with shopkeepers and locals at the bustling Sahastradhara Crossing Market in Dehradun. He pushed hard for using indigenous products, saying they play a key role in building a self-reliant India. “Adopting local goods boosts our traditions, supports homegrown industries, and opens up jobs for young people,” Dhami told the crowd.

He also reminded shopkeepers to keep things clean, make shopping easy for customers, and manage the market well. Dhami promised the government stands by small traders, working nonstop to create a friendly space for businesses to thrive.

Just a couple of days earlier, on September 23, Dhami dropped by shops in Dehradun’s Rajpur Road area during the lively GST Savings Festival. He talked with business owners to hear their stories and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the fresh GST rates. “This is a big win for everyone,” Dhami said, praising the central government’s updates to GST slabs that put people first.

These changes mean real savings for millions of families and small traders across Uttarakhand, according to Dhami. He gathered feedback from shop owners and stressed that lower GST benefits should reach everyday buyers. Once again, he called for promoting indigenous products and jumping into the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign to make India stronger.

Dhami added that a statewide awareness drive on the new GST rates runs until September 29, with ministers, lawmakers, and officials spreading the word at various spots. The goal? Help folks grasp how these updates save money and spark economic growth.

The timing couldn’t be better—these GST reforms kicked in on Monday, right before the festive season. Dhami noted they’ll cut costs for shoppers and give Uttarakhand’s economy a solid boost.

The latest tweaks come from the GST Council’s 56th meeting earlier this month. They simplify things by swapping the old four-rate setup for a cleaner two-slab system: 5% and 18%. Luxury and sin goods still face a 40% rate to keep things balanced.
