Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami joined an awareness event in Dehradun’s Patel Nagar on Friday, kicking off the GST Bachat Utsav to highlight recent GST rate cuts. Traders and locals gathered to share their thoughts on how these reductions are making everyday items more affordable.
Dhami chatted with attendees and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for economic reforms. “This GST reduction marks a big step forward,” he said, noting it will lift the quality of life for everyone in society. The changes, he added, bring real relief to ordinary folks by lowering prices on consumer goods.
He encouraged traders to spread the word about the new rates and focus on buying and selling local, homegrown products. That way, Dhami explained, it strengthens Uttarakhand’s economy and the whole nation’s.
Traders and residents couldn’t hide their excitement. Launching during Navratri, the initiative has sparked buzz in markets and among shoppers. “It’s going to add extra joy to our lives and businesses, especially with Diwali coming up,” they shared.
The rationalized GST rates rolled out on September 22, aiming to shake up sectors by simplifying taxes and fixing issues like inverted duty structures, according to a Union Bank of India report. Daily essentials, packaged foods, and personal care products now fall under the 5% slab, down from 12% or 18%. Experts predict companies will slash prices by 4% to 6%, helping more people afford what they need and sparking demand in rural areas.
Even better, staples like paneer, chapati, and khakhra have dropped to zero tax, putting cheaper basics on everyone’s table.
