Uttarakhand CM Dhami’s Diwali gesture reinforces bond with ex-CM Rawat

During the festive glow of Dhanteras, Dehradun welcomed a warm surprise from Uttarakhand’s political circle. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the Defence Colony home of former Chief Minister and Haridwar MP Trivendra Singh Rawat. The two BJP stalwarts exchanged smiles, sweets and Diyas, welcoming the Diwali season together.

Dhami’s visit, which lasted more than an hour, highlighted the close friendship between the leaders. While presenting traditional gifts—sweets that shine with prosperity and Diyas that bring light—Dhami emphasized that Diwali is about family, unity and shared dreams for Uttarakhand’s future.

After the visit, Dhami posted a photo of the pair on social media, showing them with a bright bouquet. Rawat earlier had shared a heartfelt Dhanteras message, wishing every citizen of Uttarakhand prosperity and peace.

The bond between Dhami and Rawat started in 2017. Dhami was a rising BJP MLA from Khatima, and Rawat became his mentor, bringing him into key party committees. When Rawat stepped down in March 2021, Dhami took over as the youngest Chief Minister at 45, with Rawat’s quiet support to smooth the transition.

Their goodwill moments continue. In July 2021 Dhami hosted a private dinner for Rawat at his official residence, signaling continuity amid leadership changes. In 2022, Rawat campaigned hard for Dhami even after losing his own seat, helping the BJP win a landslide.

In April 2025, Dhami appointed Rawat’s allies to state councils, settling rumours of discord over issues like illegal mining. This Diwali visit comes just as Uttarakhand looks ahead to the 2027 elections, with Dhami the longest‑serving BJP CM—over four years in office.

Analysts say the gesture is more than a holiday greeting; it’s a strategic move to reinforce party unity. As fireworks light Dehradun’s sky, the celebration speaks to Uttarakhand’s “pahadi warmth”: politics can pause, and the people come together for prosperity.
