Dehradun – Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami marked the Shaheed Samman Diwas ceremony in Lansdowne, Pauri Garhwal, on Sunday. The event honored the brave soldiers who gave their lives for the country.
CM Dhami opened the day by presenting copper plates and ceremonial robes to many families of the martyrs. He also met Army personnel, inspected the Army band, and wished them well.
A wreath lay at the statue of Amar Shaheed Gabbar Singh Negi, the first martyr of Uttarakhand. “Because sons like him keep our nation safe,” the chief minister said.
The CM then lit a lamp in front of copper urns that hold sacred soil from the courtyards of fallen soldiers from various districts. He offered floral tributes, reminding everyone that this soil will later be placed in the new Sainya Dham, the military shrine being built in Dehradun.
During the ceremony, Dhami announced plans to renovate the Sainik Vishram Griha in Kotdwar. The upgrade will include modern facilities and free services for soldiers and their families. New common‑service centres will be run by government‑appointed “veer naris” and ex‑servicemen.
He highlighted that most Uttarakhand households have a military link, so the state government keeps pushing for soldiers’ welfare. Key benefits announced:
– Ex‑gratia payments to families of martyrs rise from ₹50 lakhs to ₹1 crore.
– ₹10,000 assistance for a martyr’s last rites.
– 25 % stamp‑duty exemption on land purchases for soldiers.
Military Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi said the second phase of the Shaheed Samman Samaroh, which started in Dehradun on Sept 25, ended in Lansdowne. He noted that the remaining 71 martyrs’ soil will light the Amar Jawan Jyoti before the shrine opens.
Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt praised Uttarakhand as a land of valor, adding that the state honours its martyrs as immortal heroes and prioritises their families’ support.
The ceremony underscored Uttarakhand’s commitment to remember its fallen and to improve the lives of current and former soldiers.
