Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi Faces Massive Rs 845 Crore Loss from Recent Disaster
A devastating natural disaster has hit Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand hard, crippling the local economy and halting key development projects. Officials say the damage runs deep, affecting everything from roads to farms and putting many livelihoods at risk.
District Magistrate Prashant Kumar Arya revealed that the estimated loss so far totals around Rs 845 crore. The floods and landslides have wrecked roads, bridges, irrigation canals, drinking water systems, and rural infrastructure. Villages saw houses crumble, while huge swathes of farmland and orchards got swept away. "This disaster threatens the daily lives and income of thousands of residents," Arya told reporters.
But there’s hope on the horizon. Arya promised full support for affected families and said reconstruction will kick off immediately. The district has set aside Rs 845 crore in relief funds, though assessments continue, so the final tally could rise. The administration is teaming up with central and state governments to bring back normalcy fast. These recurring natural calamities in Uttarakhand’s hills keep challenging communities, and now the focus is on quick recovery and rehab.
Chamoli District Struggles Too Amid Flood Chaos
The disaster didn’t spare neighboring Chamoli district either, where relief teams are racing against time. District Supply Officer Ankit Pandey shared updates from the badly hit Tharali area, saying operations are moving ahead smoothly.
Pandey’s team has distributed plenty of food grains and about 2,000 refreshment kits to those in need. In spots where roads are blocked and access is cut off, they’ve sent ration kits via local tehsil offices. For the toughest, hard-to-reach zones, helicopters are airlifting supplies to ensure no one goes without.
He explained, "We’ve already handed out rations for May through August. September supplies have reached areas with open roads, but blocked paths in Tharali due to flooding are slowing things down." Still, the administration pushes on, working round-the-clock to deliver aid to isolated villages and ease the pain from this Uttarakhand natural disaster.
