In Trichy, Tamil Nadu, on October 2, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader and MP Thol. Thirumavalavan slammed the Tamil Nadu government for failing to file a case against actor Vijay, president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). This comes after the deadly Karur stampede that killed 41 people during one of Vijay’s events.
Speaking to reporters, Thirumavalavan questioned whether the government and police fear taking action against Vijay. “Is the Tamil Nadu government and police afraid of acting against him?” he asked sharply.
He accused Vijay of dodging responsibility for the Karur tragedy and instead using it to score political points by blaming others and attacking leaders in power. “The politics Vijay has taken up, or the forces he has fallen into, are deeply dangerous,” Thirumavalavan warned. “It raises fears of what might happen if Tamil Nadu falls into the hands of such forces.”
Thirumavalavan also claimed that despite Vijay calling the BJP his rival, the party is shielding him, which reveals his real alliances. “If Vijay were truly thinking independently, he would not commit such mistakes. Those around him are all trained in BJP-RSS political workshops,” he added.
He pointed to Nirmal Kumar, a former BJP leader who quit to join TVK, as an example. “Why did he leave the BJP and join TVK? Has he ever once called the BJP a communal party? Was his resignation an act of sacrifice?” Thirumavalavan pressed.
Drawing a comparison to actor Rajinikanth, Thirumavalavan alleged that the RSS once urged Rajini to launch his own party. He said the same RSS forces are now guiding Vijay, but warned that this kind of politics won’t work in Tamil Nadu.
Thirumavalavan insisted Vijay has no plans to join the NDA alliance. Instead, he aims to split votes from the INDIA bloc led by the DMK—especially minority votes—all under BJP and RSS influence. He questioned why police hesitate to act against Vijay: “Is there a secret link between Vijay and the DMK?”
On the Karur stampede, he argued that if officials treat it as a mere accident, they should drop cases against others involved in similar incidents.
Earlier that day, marking former Chief Minister Kamaraj’s memorial, Thirumavalavan garlanded his statue at Trichy’s Chathiram Bus Stand and offered floral tributes. October 2 also marks Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, and Thirumavalavan highlighted how both Gandhi and Kamaraj opposed alcohol. He called for nationwide prohibition, noting that alcohol played a big role in the Karur tragedy that claimed 41 lives. ()
