During a full‑day visit to Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan toured the state for the first time and took part in a string of events across Nava Raipur and Rajnandgaon.
The trip was part of the state’s “Rajat Mahotsav” celebrations – a three‑day cultural festival marking 25 years since Chhattisgarh was created on November 1, 2000.
In Nava Raipur, the Vice President watched the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team perform an eye‑catching air show over Sendh Lake. Formed in 1996, the team is famed for its precise flying and dazzling displays.
Later he turned the key on the Udayachal Multi‑Speciality Eye Care Institute in Rajnandgaon, thanking donors for helping build the new hospital. He also transferred more than ₹647 crore to beneficiaries under the state’s “Mahatari Vandan” scheme, a program that gives farmers and rural families direct cash support.
At the “Lakhpati Didi Sammelan” in Rajnandgaon, the Vice President met women who have earned livelihoods through the Centre’s “Lakhpati Didi” scheme, which provides low‑interest loans to rural women.
Speaking to , beneficiary Sangeeta Nirmal said the scheme was a life‑changer, enabling her to open a general store and a fishery shop that now generate about ₹6 lakh a year. “I thank PM Modi for this ‘miracle’ and urge the government to keep supporting women,” she added.
Another woman, Rukmini Shahu, said the recognition from the Vice President motivated her to work hard. She now earns between ₹7 – 8 lakh annually through several businesses and continues to benefit from state and central programmes.
The Vice President’s visit highlighted Chhattisgarh’s growth in culture, aviation, healthcare and women’s empowerment, showcasing how government schemes are translating into real opportunities for local communities.
