Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in India’s path to self-reliance and progress. He shared an insightful article by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, highlighting how education is evolving in the country.
In his message, Prime Minister Modi explained how NEP 2020 is shaping the future of Indian education. The article, titled “The Teacher in a Changing World,” details how teachers are now acting as ‘transformers’—helping students become responsible, skilled, and well-rounded citizens. Teachers are embracing new technologies like digital classrooms, artificial intelligence (AI), and updated curricula, supported by platforms such as PM eVidya, DIKSHA, and SWAYAM.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan pointed out that NEP 2020 is a major step toward India’s goal of becoming self-reliant by 2047. He stressed that teachers play a crucial role in this journey, helping build a better future for the country. “Teachers are the soul of education,” he said, comparing them to the life-givers that give meaning and spirit to schools, which are just buildings without dedicated teachers.
Recently, Prime Minister Modi called for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) and urged people to support the ‘Swadeshi’ movement—focusing on promoting local products and industries. These ideas are part of India’s vision for a prosperous and independent nation by 2047.
It has been five years since NEP 2020 was introduced, and it aims to transform the education system. The new “5+3+3+4” structure promotes experiential learning—learning by doing—rather than just memorizing textbooks and taking exams. The updated National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 supports this shift, focusing on developing students’ skills and practical knowledge.
India is making strong progress in education under NEP 2020, with teachers playing a vital role in shaping a brighter future.
