NIA Cracks Down on ISIS Terror Plot: Raids 16 Locations in 8 States
In a major operation against terror networks, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided 16 spots across eight states on Tuesday. This crackdown targets the Vizianagaram ISIS case, where suspects plotted to spread fear using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). They also radicalized and recruited young people through social media platforms.
The NIA team seized digital devices, documents, cash, and other incriminating items during the searches in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Delhi. They worked closely with Andhra Pradesh Police to carry out these raids smoothly.
This action comes just weeks after the NIA arrested a key player, Arif Husain alias Abu Talib, on August 27. He tried to escape to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia but got caught. NIA investigations show he teamed up with others to smuggle weapons across the Nepal border.
The case started in July when Vizianagaram police nabbed Siraj-ur-Rahman with chemicals linked to making IEDs. During questioning, Siraj spilled details of a plot to attack the Indian government. This led to the arrest of another suspect, Syed Sameer.
Digging deeper, NIA found that Siraj and Sameer used apps like Instagram, Facebook, Telegram, and Signal to brainwash vulnerable youth and pull them into the ISIS network. These raids mark a big win in NIA’s fight to dismantle terror groups in India, keeping the country safer from such threats.
