BRS Fires Back at Congress: We’re Not the B-Team of BJP or Congress, Says KTR

Hyderabad, Sep 9: In a sharp response to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s jibe, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, made it clear that his party isn’t anyone’s sidekick. KTR hit back on social media, declaring that BRS is the real A-team for Telangana’s people, not a B-team for Congress or BJP.

The spat started when Jairam Ramesh, a senior Congress general secretary and former union minister, tweeted on Monday, questioning why BRS and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chose to abstain from voting in the Vice-Presidential election. "Two parties who have stood with the BJP staunchly over the past decade in Parliament have decided to abstain in the Vice Presidential election tomorrow. The shape of things to come?" Ramesh posted, seemingly targeting BRS.

KTR didn’t hold back. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam Ramesh’s "arrogant" attitude. "Jairam Ji, This sense of entitlement and arrogance is what made Congress fail in contemporary politics. ‘Either you are with us or else you’re with them’ claim is a silly argument posturing as if the nation is bipolar," KTR wrote. He added, "We are neither B-team of Congress or BJP. We are the A-team of Telangana people. Please focus on your own failures and spare us the tantrums."

Why Did BRS Abstain from Vice President Election Vote?

BRS, which holds four seats in the Rajya Sabha, announced on Monday that it would skip the voting in the Vice Presidential election held on Tuesday. The decision came as a strong protest against the central and state governments’ failure to address the urea shortage crisis in Telangana.

KTR explained during a press conference that for the last 20 days, BRS has been raising alarms about the lack of urea for farmers. "Yet they have failed to respond. As a mark of protest and in solidarity with 71 lakh Telangana farmers, BRS has decided not to participate in the Vice President election. If NOTA was an option, we would have chosen it," he said.

He even offered a way out earlier. Back on August 20, KTR stated that BRS would back any alliance—be it NDA or INDIA bloc—that promises to supply two lakh tonnes of urea to meet Telangana farmers’ needs. But since neither side stepped up, the party chose to abstain.

This move highlights the ongoing urea shortage in Telangana and BRS’s push to support farmers. As political tensions rise ahead of key elections, KTR’s bold stand could shake things up in Telangana politics. Stay tuned for more updates on BRS vs Congress rivalry and the Vice Presidential election results.
