On October 25, officials in New Delhi hosted a commemoration of the 63rd Walong Day, turning the historic Battle of Walong battlefield into a living memory. The event was a Battlefield Trek that ran from Dichu through Karoti and Namti to Ashi Hill in Arunachal Pradesh, a route that once packed with Indian soldiers during the 1962 war against China.
The trek drew enthusiastic crowds of NCC cadets, their instructors, and local children. Together they retraced the old fighting lines and experienced the terrain that tested the bravery of the Indian Army. Activity stations along the trail included zip‑lining, All‑Terrain Vehicle (ATV) rides, and a live war‑rehearsal show staged by the Indian Army, turning history into a vivid experience for everyone present.
Ashi Hill and Namti Plains are steeped in emotional military lore. The Namti Plains were dubbed the “Tiger’s Mouth” by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. Despite being outnumbered and poorly equipped, Indian soldiers held that ground and staved off the Chinese advance toward Walong. Ashi Hill holds its own silent testament to the grit and patriotism of soldiers who fought under harsh Himalayan conditions.
The trek aimed more than to honor the fallen—it sought to plant pride in younger hearts. By walking the paths once trodden by brave Indian soldiers, participants learned about courage, resilience, and the sacrifices that shaped India’s defense history. Officials said the adventure would also pull the Armed Forces, local communities, and youth closer together in Arunachal Pradesh, building national unity and pride.
In short, the 63rd Walong Day Trek echoed a legacy of valor that keeps inspiring new generations. The heroic deeds of 1962 were remembered and relived, reminding all that the spirit of Walong still runs strong in India’s collective memory.
