Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set for his big visit to Manipur, where he’s pushing for inclusive growth and all-round development in the state. On Saturday, he’ll kick off events in Churachandpur and Imphal, laying foundation stones for key projects like roads, national highways, and women’s hostels.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi shared his excitement: “I will be attending programmes in Churachandpur and Imphal tomorrow, 13th September. We are fully committed to furthering inclusive and all-round development of Manipur.” He highlighted upcoming launches, including the Civil Secretariat at Mantripukhri, the IT SEZ Building, the New Police Headquarters at the same spot, and a special all-women market across various districts.
This trip is part of PM Modi’s packed schedule from September 13 to 15, covering five states: Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, he’ll inaugurate and lay foundations for projects worth a whopping Rs 71,850 crore. These initiatives focus on improving ease of living, with a big emphasis on better connectivity, job creation, and overall progress for people.
In Manipur specifically, PM Modi will boost development with projects totaling over Rs 7,300 crore in Churachandpur. Highlights include the Manipur Urban Roads, drainage, and asset management project (worth more than Rs 3,600 crore), five National Highway projects (over Rs 2,500 crore), the Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) project, and working women’s hostels at nine locations. It’s a strong step toward sustainable and holistic growth in the state.
Over in Imphal, he’ll unveil projects worth more than Rs 1,200 crore. These feature the Civil Secretariat at Mantripukhri, the IT SEZ Building and New Police Headquarters there, Manipur Bhawans in Delhi and Kolkata, and the unique Ima Markets—an all-women market—in four districts.
This visit comes amid challenges in Manipur, where ethnic clashes erupted on May 3, 2023, between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The violence has hurt the state’s economy, social fabric, and political stability, making these development efforts even more crucial for recovery and unity.
