Arvind Kejriwal Visits Flood-Hit Areas in Punjab, Assures Help for Affected Families

In a strong show of support, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal visited Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab’s Kapurthala district on Thursday, where severe floods have caused massive destruction. With Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann unwell and unable to join, Kejriwal assured local residents that the government is fully committed to helping those affected.

Kejriwal spoke to the media about the scale of the disaster. He called this year’s floods one of the worst in Punjab’s history, comparing it to the floods of 1988. Entire villages have been submerged, destroying homes, crops, and infrastructure. He highlighted that relief efforts are ongoing around the clock, with the Punjab government working tirelessly to rescue families and provide aid.

Accompanying Kejriwal were Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, showing a united front in facing the crisis. Kejriwal emphasized the resilience and courage of Punjab’s people, praising their spirit of helping one another even during tough times.

While some families are hesitant to leave their homes, many have been safely moved to relief camps, where the government is providing food, shelter, and essential supplies. Kejriwal thanked Punjab’s officials, MLAs, officers, and AAP workers for their dedicated efforts. He also shared that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who was expected to visit with him, had to rest after days of continuous work.

The Delhi leader assured that gazetted officers are being deployed to affected villages to deliver immediate help directly to people, without the need to run from office to office. He stressed that victims should receive aid quickly and easily.

Kejriwal made an urgent appeal to the central government, highlighting that while India provided significant aid to Afghanistan during its crisis, Punjab also needs urgent assistance in this serious situation. He urged the Centre to send maximum support without delay.

Looking ahead, Kejriwal announced plans for post-flood recovery. Once the waters recede, the Punjab government will focus on preventing disease outbreaks, rebuilding damaged roads, providing compensation to families who lost their homes, and helping farmers recover their crops.

He called on everyone—individuals, organizations, and the central government—to join hands in this humanitarian effort. “This is not the time for politics. It’s a time for collective help,” he said, promising that Punjab will get all the assistance it needs during this difficult period.

As the situation develops, the focus remains on relief, recovery, and standing with Punjab’s resilient people in their hour of need.
