India’s youth are hitting the streets to fight drugs and boost fitness through the Namo Yuva Run, a nationwide campaign gaining momentum. In Jammu and Kashmir, BJP leader Ashok Koul highlighted the event’s core goal: building a drug-free India and inspiring young people to steer clear of addiction.
On Sunday, September 21, the marathon kicked off in Srinagar, Badgam, and Ganderbal districts under the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat.” Koul told reporters that these runs form part of the BJP Seva Pakhwada, a series of community service events running from September 17 to October 2. “The government and BJP are behind these initiatives,” he said. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the run today and speak to participants. We aim for addiction-free youth who can drive India’s progress.”
Sunil Sharma, the Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, praised the Namo Yuva Run for uniting Kashmir’s young people with the vision of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” – one strong, united India. “Events like this motivate youth to avoid the dangers of drugs,” Sharma said. He linked the marathon to the broader Sewa Pakhwada celebrations marking PM Modi’s 75th birthday. These include blood donation camps, medical check-ups, cleanliness drives, and now this fitness push. “The drug trade is sneaking in from neighboring countries,” Sharma added. “But India’s strict government policies will protect our future generations.”
In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the Namo Yuva Run in Lucknow, tying it to the dream of a developed India. He stressed how the Sewa Pakhwada, spanning from PM Modi’s birthday to Mahatma Gandhi’s on October 2, focuses on health, youth empowerment, and social awareness.
The campaign, started by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on September 7, promotes fitness and anti-drug messages. Fitness star and supermodel Milind Soman serves as its ambassador. On this day, BJYM organized 100 runs across India, each drawing at least 10,000 young participants as part of the BJP’s birthday tribute to the Prime Minister.
