A joint raid by Jamui police, the Special Task Force (STF) and the CRPF’s Cobra Battalion on Monday night turned up a loaded AK‑47 magazine and 12 live cartridges near Bariyarpur village, close to the Malaypur police station.
The find comes as security teams tighten up ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. Police said Spot‑Officer Vishwajeet Dayal got a tip about suspicious activity at a decaying irrigation building by the river. Acting on the lead, SDPO Satish Suman led a mixed unit of district officers, STF and CRPF 119th Battalion for a coordinated search.
In the raid, they seized a magazine holding ten live AK‑47 cartridges and two INSAS rifle rounds. Footprints and motorcycle tyre tracks suggested a group had gathered there and fled when the police appeared. Dayal said Naxalite involvement could not be ruled out, but stressed that the district remains on high alert as the elections approach.
“The operation was swift to avoid any incidents. We are investigating all angles,” Dayal told reporters. He added that continuous raids and joint security actions will keep the district safe and the polls fair.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) reported that, by October 21, authorities had seized Rs 71.57 crore in cash, liquor, drugs and precious metals across Bihar. The seizure came from 824 flying squads and enforcement teams working statewide. The ECI said it tackles election‑related complaints within 100 minutes and urged voters and parties to report violations of the Model Code of Conduct through the C‑Vigil app or the ECINET portal.
Despite Bihar’s total ban on alcohol since 2016, officials noted that large amounts of illicit liquor are still being confiscated during the poll season – a trend the Commission calls concerning.
The Bihar Assembly elections will run in two phases: November 6 and November 11, with counting on November 14.
