Get ready for a wet Sunday! The weather office in Chennai has forecast widespread rain across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
A weather system hovering over South India is expected to bring thunderstorms and light to moderate rain to many parts of the state. Several districts are even on alert for heavy downpours.
Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:
- Heavy Rain Alert: The Regional Meteorological Centre has specifically warned that places like Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, and Perambalur could see heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
- Southern Tamil Nadu: In the southern part of the state, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam may also get heavy showers.
- Other Areas: The hilly regions of Coimbatore, along with the Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Ranipet, Vellore, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram districts are also likely to receive scattered heavy rain.
The Met Department says the intensity of the rain might even increase over the next 48 hours, with more thunderstorms and lightning expected.
What about Chennai?
The capital city will see a partly cloudy sky throughout the day. Residents can expect moderate rain with thunder and lightning in some areas, especially during the evening and night.
Important Advisories:
- For Fishermen: Those venturing out to sea should be very careful, as the coastal areas are expected to experience rough weather.
- For Residents: While the rain will bring some relief from the heat, it could also lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas. Officials are advising people in vulnerable districts to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
- Preparedness: Local district administrations have been put on alert to handle any potential disruptions to transport and daily life.
So, keep your umbrellas handy and stay updated on the latest weather forecasts as the active monsoon brings a mix of light and heavy rain to different parts of Tamil Nadu this week.
