Chennai and much of Tamil Nadu expect light to moderate rain tomorrow, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) says in its latest bulletin. The forecast comes as the northeast monsoon is still active over the state, with moisture‑laden winds coming in from the Bay of Bengal.
What’s the forecast?
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal – Light to moderate showers are likely in one or two spots. The weather systems will keep moving over the area for the next couple of days, so keep an eye on local alerts.
Southern districts under watch – Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari could see isolated heavy showers. These areas have already been getting rain this week, so residents should stay ready for local disruptions.
Chennai – The sky will stay partly cloudy. Small neighbourhoods, especially in the north and centre, may get brief breezy showers in the evening or at night. Expect temperatures around 33 °C (91 °F) at the high, and about 25‑26 °C (77‑79 °F) at the low – still warm and humid.
Why is this happening?
The IMD notes that the Bay of Bengal is feeding a continuous stream of convective activity. While the rainfall won’t blanket the whole state, it can deliver quick, intense bursts that catch people off guard, especially at night.
Stay prepared
- Keep local weather alerts handy.
- Avoid traveling on roads prone to flooding, especially in the watchlist districts.
- Check for water accumulation before moving vehicles or walking in heavy showers.
No major weather disturbances like a low‑pressure system or depression are expected right now, but meteorologists will monitor the southwest Bay of Bengal for any changes that could tweak the rain pattern.
For the next two days, the light showers should keep coming and going. Residents can expect humid, warm evenings that follow the evening rainfall. Stay tuned to official updates and keep umbrellas handy.
