Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced today that the city government is stepping up its support for the city’s Prajapati potters. At the Prajapati Mahakumbh gathering on Sunday, she pledged new measures to boost the sale of their handcrafted clay products and to help artisans become self‑sufficient.
The event, held at Adarsh Ramlila Ground in Narela, Outer Delhi, was organized by the National Prajapati Federation. In her speech, Gupta emphasized welfare, education, skill‑development programs and empowerment for the Prajapati community, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Swadeshi” and “Vocal for Local” campaigns.
“We see how hard the Prajapati people work and how creative their designs are,” Gupta said. “Their traditional skills inspire us all, and we’ll do everything we can to lift their economic conditions and give their industry the recognition it deserves.”
Attendees included Member of Parliament Yogender Chandolia, MLA Rajkaran Khatri, and several local leaders and artisans. The Chief Minister thanked the community for shaping deities, kitchenware, and everyday beauty from clay, noting that their craft is a living part of India’s cultural heritage.
Gupta promised concrete steps to protect the Prajapati’s interests, expand skill‑building workshops, and improve access to markets. She highlighted that these initiatives will not only raise incomes but also revive indigenous manufacturing.
“Traditional craftsmanship is more than a livelihood; it reflects our rich heritage,” she added. “The Delhi government has a responsibility to preserve and strengthen it, and we will act decisively to uplift the Prajapati community.”
