Will contest 2027 Assembly elections alone, says Punjab BJP

Chandigarh, Dec. 2 – Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma told reporters on Tuesday that his party intends to run alone in the 2027 state assembly polls.

He took aim at the AAP‑led Mann administration, claiming that the state is experiencing a “complete breakdown” of law and order. Sharma accused the Aam Aadmi Party of “misusing” government machinery to win municipal and nagar council seats – a tactic he says it now plans to repeat in the upcoming Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.

Speaking to the press before a meeting of the state election committee, Sharma said the current government is “distracting people with its absurd statements.” He criticised Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema’s remarks, arguing that the administration has already sensed the 2027 election outcome. “In a panic, it’s making baseless claims to divert public attention,” he added.

The BJP leader challenged the government on several fronts: “Has law and order truly been restored? Are the drug mafias and gangsters gone? Have the promises to farmers, workers and women been kept?” He also slammed the AAP’s failure to compensate those affected by floods.

Sharma highlighted the confidence and optimism that have grown in Punjab during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 11‑year tenure. He said Punjabis want an end to drug trafficking, a crackdown on gangsters, stronger law‑and‑order measures, and a guaranteed minimum support price (MSP) for crops similar to Haryana’s model.

He claimed to have “exposed” illegal mining from Pathankot to Fazilka, but noted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann offered no action or public clarification. “This demonstrates that the AAP government’s priorities lie with pleasing (Arvind) Kejriwal rather than Punjab,” Sharma concluded.
