Mumbai, Oct 22 – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters that he plans to stay in office until the end of his term in 2029. “I’ll keep the post for Maharashtra until 2029,” he said clearly, dismissing any talk that he might move to Delhi.
Fadnavis also announced that the current MahaYuti government – a coalition of the BJP, Shiv Sena and the NCP – will remain unchanged. He stressed that the Mahayuti cabinet won’t see a reshuffle. “We only just expanded the cabinet about a year ago,” he said. “After a year we’ll re‑examine the ministers’ performance. Only then will we consider a cabinet change.”
During a brief diwali‑prayer at his home in Varsha, the CM added that he does not plan any new alliance partners or swap allies at this step. “The trio will stay the same for the coming years,” he said.
Addressing the upcoming local and civic body elections, Fadnavis criticised opposition parties for making unsubstantiated claims about flaws in the voter list. The Supreme Court has ordered a complete revision of the electoral rolls by January 31, 2026. “The opposition has not raised any concrete objections about the voter list,” he said. “They want to push the polls to the side, but they offer no solid reason. The BJP will soon show how the current rolls undermine the opposition.”
On strategy for the municipality polls, he explained that the MahaYuti coalition will not contest every municipal corporation together. “In places where the BJP is the first‑position party, we might run alone or form a pre‑poll tie‑up,” he said. “In other areas we’ll look for local alliances. The idea is to play smart.”
The CM also spoke about the evolving relationship between Raj and Uddhav Thackeray, the leaders of the two Shiv Sena factions. “If Raj says I close the two brothers, that’s a compliment,” he said. “I’ve faced criticism for breaking party unity before. No third party can break a party. Only personal ambition and injustice do.” He hopes the Thackeray brothers remain united post‑elections. “The ‘Thackeray brand’ belongs to Bal Thackeray and no one else carries it,” he added.
Fadnavis closed by saying he holds strong ties with Raj Thackeray and that Eknath Shinde enjoys similar relations. The message was clear: Maharashtra’s leadership will stay steady, alliances will remain, and the state will push ahead toward the 2029 elections.
