In Patna, Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Ram announced that the party plans to field more women than men in the coming state assembly election.
“Congress wants the highest possible number of women standing in every seat it contests,” he told reporters at a press briefing.
Mohammed? (Bhag?)
The congress leader also kept the press in the loop on how many seats the party will share with its allies in the INDIA Bloc. “Talks are moving forward and we’ll give you the final list soon,” he said, promising a full announcement shortly.
Other voices at the event included Jharkhand minister Deepika Pandey, who accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of acting like “cousin brothers.” She questioned the timing of the NDA government’s ₹10,000‑per‑woman payout to 1.21 crore women, calling it a campaign move. “If the central government can help 1.21 crore women, why are there still many left out?” she asked, pointing out that Jharkhand’s own welfare plan, Maiya Samman Yojana, has been more effective.
Rajesh Ram also condemned a recent incident in which a shoe was thrown at a Supreme Court judge, labeling it a “direct attack on the Constitution and judiciary” and an example of rising intolerance under the BJP‑RSS government.
The Bihar Congress contested 70 seats in the 2020 assembly poll, but its share may shrink this time. The Grand Alliance has grown to include the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), so Congress will likely receive a smaller slice of the seats.
