New Delhi, Oct 7 – A recent opinion poll carried out by and Matrize News Communications has shown the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) – led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) – poised to win the Bihar Assembly elections. The poll projects the NDA with about 49 % of the vote and 150‑160 of the 243 seats.
BJP and JD(U) leaders welcomed the results. Bihar’s minister Ashok Choudhary said the coalition could win even more seats than the poll suggests, estimating 180‑185. “We’ll perform better than in 2020,” he added, citing the popularity of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and PM Modi’s development work in the state.
San Jaya of JD(U) echoed the optimism, saying the numbers will rise as the election date approaches. “Rahul Gandhi is abroad and can’t win Bihar with part‑time politics,” he said. Dilip Jaiswal, BJP chief in Bihar, highlighted the work of Modi and Kumar, stating that the state will continue to progress under their guidance.
The poll’s key numbers put the NDA in a commanding lead over the opposition. The BJP alone is projected to capture 21 % of the vote and 80‑85 seats, while JD(U) expects 18 % and 60‑65 seats. Smaller partners like the Hindustani Awam Morcha, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha will add a few more seats to the alliance’s tally.
Opposition forces, grouped under the Mahagathbandhan (India Bloc), are forecast to secure 36 % of the vote and between 70‑85 seats, a slight decline from their 37.2 % share in 2020. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) under Tejashwi Yadav remains the bloc’s strongest party with 21 % of the vote and 60‑65 seats.
The Congress, which declined to accept the poll results, insists that the India Bloc will win a large majority on November 14. “This survey will be proven wrong,” Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput said.
Overall, the poll highlights a potential consolidation of power for the NDA, amid concerns about unemployment, migration, and governance. The Bihar Assembly election is set to be a key test of the coalition’s popularity and political strategy.
