President Droupadi Murmu celebrated Uttarakhand’s 25th anniversary on Sunday, calling it a “silver jubilee” of the state’s formation. She praised the region as “Devbhoomi” – the land of Gods – and thanked its people for their “unparalleled contributions” to India’s spiritual and cultural journey.
Uttarakhand was carved out of Uttar Pradesh on 9 November 2000, becoming India’s 27th state. Today it stands as a model of balanced development, blending faith, modernity, and environmental care.
On X, President Murmu wrote: “On this historic occasion of the silver jubilee of the state’s formation, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all residents of heroic Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. The people’s hard work has created a new dimension of modern development. I wish a bright future for everyone here.”
Other leaders joined the celebrations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a message on X: “Happy 25th anniversary to Uttarakhand. In its lap of nature, the state is gaining new momentum in progress and tourism. I wish happiness, prosperity, good health, and continued success for the humble, hardworking people.”
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the state’s journey from struggle to growth. He honored former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose vision helped create Devbhoomi, and praised the BJP government’s achievements in connectivity, infrastructure, industry, tourism, education, health, and women’s empowerment. Dhami noted that Uttarakhand ranks high in the Sustainable Development Goals Index and highlighted successful projects such as the Char Dham and Kanwar pilgrimages. He also announced record industrial investment of ₹3.5 lakh crore, with over ₹1 lakh crore already realised.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath posted: “Congratulations to Uttarakhand on its Foundation Day. Guided by PM Modi and CM Dhami, the state is becoming empowered, secure, and prosperous.” He sent prayers to Baba Kedarnath, wishing the “Crown Jewel of India” continued progress.
The silver jubilee speaks to Uttarakhand’s transformation from a people’s movement into a thriving state that balances growth and conservation while preserving its rich spiritual heritage.
