Hyderabad, Oct 19 () – A tragic accident in Telangana’s Nalgonda district left a woman and her six‑year‑old son dead when a rooftop water tank gave way over a house in Peddakaparthy village, Chityala mandal. The roof could not support the weight of the tank, and the collapse occurred hours before the family’s hotel was set to open.
P. Nagamani, 32, and her son Vamshi Krishna were crushed to death when the tank, installed on corrugated sheets on the roof, fell. Two more people on the roof suffered injuries. Police reached the scene almost immediately, transported the injured to a hospital, and moved the bodies for autopsy. The family was busy preparing for the hotel’s inauguration the next day when the tragedy struck.
Authorities have registered a case and are investigating the collapse. The incident highlights risks of using heavy water tanks on older roof structures in Telangana’s rural areas.
In a separate case, police in Komuram Bheem Asifabad district are probing a suspected honour killing. Thalandi Shravani, known as Rani, 22, was nine months pregnant when her father‑in‑law allegedly attacked her with an axe near her home in Gerre village, Dahegaon mandal. Rani, who had married Shivarla Shekhar, a member of a Backward Class community, in October 2024, was killed on the spot. The accused, Shivarla Sathaiah, has been arrested while police investigate the motive behind the alleged honour killing.
Police continue their investigations in both cases, with the goal of clarifying the circumstances and ensuring justice for the victims.
