In Tirupati, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla kicked off the first-ever National Conference on Women’s Empowerment with a strong message: India can only become a truly inclusive and developed nation when women gain education and self-reliance. Speaking at the event on Sunday, he stressed that women-led development, along with child welfare, forms the backbone of India’s dream to achieve Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The two-day conference, themed ‘Women-led Development for Viksit Bharat’, zeros in on key topics like gender-responsive budgeting and empowering women to tackle challenges from emerging technologies. Representatives from over 20 states have gathered to discuss ways to boost women’s leadership, ramp up their role in governance, and create inclusive policies. The goal? To make women not just beneficiaries, but the main drivers of India’s growth.

Birla called this conference a game-changer in India’s democracy. It brings together lawmakers, policymakers, and women leaders to share ideas and experiences, helping shape policies that leave no one behind. “This event in Tirupati sends a powerful signal,” he said. “Women’s empowerment and child welfare aren’t side issues—they’re the foundation of our national progress.” From local panchayats to the Parliament, the focus is on building women’s leadership, crafting fair laws, and ensuring economic independence for every woman.

He pointed out that empowering women is an ongoing effort, not a quick fix. Comprehensive policies must support women at every life stage, from education to careers. Boosting women’s presence in decision-making bodies will help break down long-standing barriers. As India steps into the Amrit Kaal era, Nari Shakti—women’s power—is rising as a driving force for a stronger, more inclusive nation.

Birla highlighted how women’s strength in every field fuels sustainable growth. As India surges ahead in education, science, governance, technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation, women’s secure future will set the pace for real progress. Indian women are shining everywhere—from space missions and tech breakthroughs to sports, literature, and leadership roles. The country takes pride in its women Presidents, Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, Governors, Speakers, and legislators, showing a deep commitment to Nari Shakti.

He praised the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam as a landmark constitutional change that reserves seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Passed as the first bill in the new Parliament building, this law isn’t just symbolic—it carves out women’s rightful space in governance and grooms the next generation of leaders.

Birla also commended the non-partisan Committees on Empowerment of Women at national and state levels. These groups closely review laws, policies, and schemes to make sure they’re inclusive and effective. Their suggestions should reach even the most remote areas, giving every woman and child access to health, education, technology, and opportunities.

The inaugural session drew big names, including Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Parliamentary Committee on Empowerment of Women Chairperson D. Purandeswari, Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker C. Ayyannapatrudu, and Legislative Council Chairman Koyye Moshenu Raju. Ministers from the Andhra Pradesh government, MLAs, MLCs, and committee members from Parliament and states/UTs also joined in.
