Yamuna Authority cracks down on illegal constructions near Jewar airport, recovers land worth Rs 200 crore

In Greater Noida, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) cracked down hard on illegal constructions near the much-awaited Jewar International Airport. On Friday, their teams rolled out bulldozers in Gopalgarh and Mehandipur villages, tearing down unauthorized structures and reclaiming around 4 lakh square metres of prime land worth nearly Rs 200 crore.
Officials explained that people had been grabbing YEIDA-owned land for years, building permanent homes and setups close to the airport site. Even after multiple warnings and notices, they refused to leave. So, with heavy police backup, the authority moved in to clear the area smoothly. Cops stayed on high alert to keep things calm and stop any trouble.
This reclaimed land is a big win for the Jewar Airport project and nearby development plans. YEIDA officials stressed that without this action, encroachments could have delayed land acquisition and stalled infrastructure growth. Locals in the area say skyrocketing land prices around Jewar Airport have tempted some to illegally claim spots, hoping to cash in later.
But Friday’s demolition drive sends a strong signal: no more illegal encroachments will fly. Residents now feel more secure, believing this will deter future grabs on authority land.
The Jewar Airport is shaping up to be one of Asia’s biggest, promising a huge boost to the region’s economy and industries. YEIDA is doubling down on protecting its land, with ongoing drives to wipe out any remaining illegal occupations near the site.
