Tirupati MP Maddila Gurumoorthy is taking strong action to protect the sacred Tirumala Temple from what he calls political meddling. On September 23, he sent urgent letters to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Justice of India Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai. In them, Gurumoorthy pushes for a CBI inquiry and a new Judicial Commission led by a sitting Supreme Court judge to dig into the growing Tirumala Parakamani controversy.
Gurumoorthy slams the Naidu government’s claims of theft and misuse of temple offerings as pure political revenge. “These accusations have no solid proof or fair process,” he wrote. They hurt the deep faith of 1.2 billion Hindus around the world, who see Tirumala as the spiritual home of Lord Venkateswara. The Parakamani system—where pilgrims’ donations come together—stands for shared devotion from millions of visitors. Gurumoorthy warns that turning it into a political tool could damage community harmony and shake trust in holy sites.
He believes only a neutral central investigation can reveal the facts and rebuild confidence among devotees. Gurumoorthy points to the Constitution, which gives the judiciary and central agencies the job of guarding religious sanctity and stopping its abuse for votes. He urges Shah to launch the CBI probe for full transparency, ensuring temple offerings get the respect they deserve. The Judicial Commission, he adds, would offer an unbiased way to review the whole issue.
This move comes right after the Andhra Pradesh High Court ordered a state CID investigation into a 2023 incident at the temple. YSRCP leaders, including Gurumoorthy, see that probe as one-sided amid heated political fights in the state. Gurumoorthy vows to defend Tirumala’s honor. “The true faith of pilgrims at this holy shrine must win out over made-up stories,” he says. “We need justice to protect Hinduism’s timeless heritage.”
The letters demand quick steps to avoid more harm to religious feelings and fair governance in India.
