In early Sunday morning, a sudden flood hit the Amochu River area in Bhutan, trapping several families and workers inside a temporary quarantine and workforce camp.
The water rose fast, stranding people in the makeshift housing and forcing local authorities to act quickly.
Bhutan’s Ministry of Home Affairs said two workers were initially missing—one feared swept away and the other unaccounted for.
When a Druk Air helicopter could not take off because of bad weather, Bhutan asked India for help.
The Indian Army responded immediately, sending two helicopters. They reached the site around 12:55 p.m., picked up the stranded workers, and flew them to the nearest airport. From there, emergency teams rushed them to hospitals for care.
Later, officials confirmed that the two missing workers were alive and safe. The rescue mission was hailed as a success, thanks to the collaboration between Bhutan’s Royal Bhutan Army, Druk Air, and the Indian Army.
Bhutan’s government expressed deep gratitude to the Indian Army for its swift, life‑saving support, and praised the bravery of both Bhutanese and Indian teams. The event once again highlighted the strong friendship and cooperation between Bhutan and India.
