Indian diplomatic missions worldwide celebrate 150 years of ‘Vande Matram’

Since November 7, 2025, Indian embassies and consulates around the world have been ringing out “Vande Mataram” – the song that first appeared in 1875 and has since become a symbol of Indian pride and freedom.

Chilean students join the chorus in Santiago

In Chile, the Embassy in Santiago organized a big sing‑along with students from local universities. Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi praised the event, saying the song gave the nation its freedom spirit and still inspires young Indians everywhere. A post on X (Twitter) summed it up: “We sang together, united by our love for India’s ideals of unity, diversity and devotion.”

Bogotá’s patriotic celebration

India’s embassy in Bogotá brought together families, embassy staff and members of the Indian community for a collective rendition. The crowd echoed the message of the freedom movement and the song’s timeless call to unity.

Toronto’s vibrant tribute

In Canada, the Consulate General in Toronto hosted a mass singing event that included employees, staff, and the Indian diaspora. They celebrated the song’s call for patriotism and national pride while paying tribute to its historic role in India’s struggle for independence.

Argentina’s heartfelt chorus

Also in South America, the embassy in Argentina organized a large rendition, welcoming embassy officials, the Indian community, and friends of India. Ambassador Ajaneesh Kumar highlighted how “Vande Mataram” continues to inspire unity across generations, noting that millions worldwide joined the celebration.

Lima’s spirited homage

In Peru, the Embassy in Lima, led by Ambassador Vishvas Sapkal, organized a mass singing event with officials and community members. The Embassy posted on X that the tribute celebrated 150 years of national song and echoed patriotism, pride, and unity for the Indian nation.

The worldwide events show how the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram” brings together Indian communities across the globe, boosting national pride and remembering the song’s role in India’s historic freedom movement.
