India’s engagement in SCO reflects its key role in Eurasia: Report

India’s Active Role at SCO Summits Shows Its Growing Influence in Eurasian Politics

India’s recent participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit highlights its important role in shaping regional politics across Eurasia. A new report explains that without India’s strategic voice, no regional group in Europe and Asia can truly move forward.

Despite the presence of big powers like China and Russia, India has been steadily strengthening its influence in the SCO. Instead of just following others, India uses these forums to protect its interests and expand its voice on issues like security, connectivity, and governance.

The India Narrative (IN) report states that India’s involvement isn’t about just joining for the sake of it. Instead, India actively shares its views, ensuring that its priorities are heard. This approach helps prevent any one country from dominating the agenda and allows India to establish a strong foothold in Eurasia — a key region for trade, energy, and regional stability.

While China and Russia see the SCO partly as a way to counter Western influence, India uses the platform to connect with Central Asian countries. India’s ties with Central Asia are important for trade, energy projects, and regional cooperation. The report explains that India offers a different kind of partnership — one based on technology, health, and clean energy — that respects the sovereignty of other nations without pressure.

India’s role in the SCO is vital for Central Asian countries, which often find themselves caught between larger global powers. By working with India, they gain a balanced partner who supports development without trying to control them — helping create a more diverse and multipolar Eurasia.

Globally, India’s flexible and strategic approach shows how powerful nations can shape international relations by engaging across divides rather than forming rigid alliances. India believes that true strategic independence means participating actively in multiple platforms, protecting national interests while staying open to dialogue.

In the SCO, India has shown that it’s ready to stand up for its sovereignty and push for cooperation on security issues, like terrorism and regional stability. Even in a forum where India’s views may not always be the main focus, it manages to have its voice heard and its concerns addressed.

Overall, India’s active diplomacy at SCO summits proves it is not just reacting to global changes but helping shape the future of world politics. Its balanced, deliberate approach to international relations underscores its status as a key player in the evolving Eurasian landscape.
