India is making waves in the Indo-Pacific region by jumping into the multinational exercise Pacific Reach 2025. This move shows the country’s strong push for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, especially as it teams up with big players like the United States and Japan.

The exercise highlights India’s stand against one-sided claims in tricky waters like the South China Sea, where tensions often run high. As a report from India Narrative points out, the Indian Navy’s role here is a big step forward for regional security cooperation and India’s growing clout in global maritime affairs.

Over 40 countries, including the US, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, joined forces for Pacific Reach 2025 right in the heart of the contested South China Sea. The focus? Submarine rescue and safety operations to handle real-world emergencies. India sent its shiny new ship, INS Nistar, which is all geared up for deep-sea rescue missions. This week-long drill mixes harbor training with at-sea action, plus medical talks and expert knowledge-sharing sessions.

Why does INS Nistar matter so much? It’s India’s latest tech marvel, able to launch Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicles (DSRVs) down to 650 meters. This not only boosts India’s submarine rescue skills but also shows off its tech edge and readiness to team up with others on undersea ops.

By diving into these multinational naval exercises, India is sharpening its teamwork with navies worldwide. It builds trust, strengthens defense ties, and goes beyond just one-on-one or three-way partnerships. Plus, with countries like China watching as observers, India keeps lines open for crisis handling, quick accident responses, and joint help in disputed areas—all without picking fights.

India’s spot in Pacific Reach 2025 underlines its role as a key player in maritime security. The South China Sea isn’t just any spot; it’s a vital trade route buzzing with global ships and flashpoints. India’s involvement helps keep things balanced and promotes peaceful vibes.

Even with China observing, India stays cool, focusing on diplomacy, cooperation, and sticking to international rules. This exercise ramps up collective security efforts and ties into India’s other moves, like recent joint drills with the Philippines in the same waters. Overall, it’s a clear sign of India stepping up as a maritime powerhouse committed to safety, partnerships, and shared global spaces.
