Indian intelligence agencies have uncovered so much about The Resistance Front (TRF) that Pakistan’s ISI is scrambling to shut it down and launch a fresh terror group for attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources close to the matter say the Intelligence Bureau, National Investigation Agency (NIA), and Jammu and Kashmir Police have pieced together detailed intel on TRF’s operations. This includes quick traces of its financial trails—something the ISI never saw coming. “Today’s tools let us move fast,” one official noted, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism. Agencies now work hand-in-glove, sharing info without roadblocks.
Remember the Pahalgam attack? TRF quickly claimed responsibility, then just as fast took it back. That move screams ISI cover-up, experts say, aimed at erasing all links to the group. The NIA, leading the probe, has since exposed over 400 phone records tied to funding from Malaysia and Gulf countries. Most cash flowed in as “donations.” A Malaysian named Yasir Hayat is in the spotlight for allegedly wiring Rs 9 lakh to TRF handlers.
Since the attack, TRF chatter has gone dead silent—a clear sign the ISI wants to pull the plug on the outfit entirely. But Indian agencies warn this is just a rebrand. The ISI will soon roll out a new proxy to keep stirring trouble in the Kashmir Valley.
The NIA’s big focus? Building a rock-solid case on terror funding to drag Pakistan back onto the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List. Pakistan dreads that spotlight right now. It’s juggling massive deals, like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0, where China demands more funding from Islamabad. China got burned in CPEC 1 by attacks from groups like the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The Pakistan Army couldn’t stop them, leading to huge losses for Beijing.
Add in a new minerals pact with the US, and no one—neither Washington nor Beijing—wants Pakistan under FATF scrutiny for terror financing. Over the past few years, TRF has been the most active Kashmir terror group, with every major plot and money trail looping back to it.
The ISI’s scheme became obvious on September 11, 2025, when a new outfit called the Mountain Warriors of Kashmir (MWK) dropped a press release. “We, the Mountain Warriors of Kashmir, declare our entry into the fight,” it said. “We’ll give our lives against the occupiers until we win Azadi.”
This group plays like a local uprising, starting with online propaganda. But insiders bet it’s the same ISI puppeteers behind TRF, just with a new name to force Indian investigators to start from zero. It’s a clever reset, but agencies are already watching closely.
