A heartwarming video of Israeli police playing the Indian National Anthem has taken social media by storm, highlighting the strong bond between India and Israel as key strategic partners.
The clip, from a recent Haifa Day event, shows officers proudly performing “Jana Gana Mana” during a ceremony marking the 107th anniversary of the Battle of Haifa. Anat Bernstein Reich, chairperson of the Israel-India Chamber of Commerce, shared it on her social media on Friday, drawing thousands of views and likes.
The event honored the bravery of Indian soldiers from the Jodhpur, Mysore, and Hyderabad cavalry units who helped liberate Haifa on September 23, 1918, during World War I. It brought together India’s Ambassador to Israel, J.P. Singh; Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav; and a crowd of dignitaries, including military attaches from other countries, Israel Defense Forces representatives, officials from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Indian troops from the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), and members of Israel’s Indian community.
The Indian Embassy in Israel posted the video on X, writing: “The Indian Embassy in Israel proudly marked the 107th anniversary of the Battle of Haifa and honored the courage and heroism of the Indian soldiers who liberated Haifa in 1918.” They added that the ceremony celebrated the sacrifices that continue to deepen the friendship between the two nations.
In his speech, Ambassador Singh shared his pride: “It is a matter of immense pride for me to stand here before you and pay homage to the brave Indian soldiers who during the First World War played a sterling role in the liberation of Haifa.” He also noted that more than 74,000 Indian troops lost their lives in World War I, and today, Indian peacekeepers with UNDOF still serve in the region to support global security.
This viral moment comes as India-Israel relations grow stronger, with shared history like the Battle of Haifa serving as a reminder of their enduring alliance.
