India’s global stature is rising fast, and experts say it’s a big win for the country. With growing friendships around the world, including the United States, Russia, and China, India is shining on the international stage.

Former diplomat Deepak Vohra, who served as India’s ambassador to Poland and has over 50 years of diplomatic experience, shared his thoughts in an exclusive interview. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for boosting India’s image worldwide. “Since PM Modi came to power, India’s reputation has grown significantly. I’ve never seen anything like this before,” he said.

Recently, US President Donald Trump praised India and PM Modi, calling him “a great Prime Minister” and a “friend,” while affirming the strong India-US relationship. However, Trump also expressed some disappointment about India buying “a lot of oil” from Russia.

When asked if India’s growing ties with countries like China and Russia affect the US, Vohra explained that India keeps good relations with everyone. “India’s relationships are independent and based on mutual interest. Countries like the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh have also improved their ties with us. India is mature in diplomacy, maintaining good relations with the US, Russia, and China simultaneously,” he said.

Vohra also commented on the special bond between India and the US. “When someone praises us, we thank them. India is polite and respectful. We follow the teachings of Chanakya — keep the door open and never close the window,” he added, emphasizing India’s balanced approach to diplomacy.

He welcomed President Trump’s remarks about India-US ties, calling it a “diplomatic win” for India. “Since PM Modi took charge, India’s image has soared globally. Even US media critics acknowledge that Modi’s leadership commands respect worldwide,” Vohra stated.

The expert also called PM Modi a “global brand.” “Whether people love him or not, you cannot ignore Narendra Modi. He represents ‘Brand India’—Yoga, Indian culture, and leadership. Just like Jambavan from Ramayana reminded Hanuman of his strength, Modi reminds Indians of their true potential,” he said.

Vohra believes the US genuinely wants good relations with India. “The US needs India for its market and products. And after China’s ties weaken, India’s importance only grows,” he explained. “PM Modi’s smart policies, like GST reforms, have improved the economy, and India’s relations with the US remain important. Trump might have spoken too much at times, but India chooses to respond with dignity and respect.”

Finally, Vohra highlighted ways India and the US can strengthen their relationship. “It’s all about mutual respect and dignity. India’s foreign policy is strong, guided by best practices in diplomacy. Our External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is doing an excellent job, and Prime Minister Modi continues to uphold India’s respectful and firm global stance,” he concluded.

India’s rising global profile under PM Modi signals a new era of international friendship and cooperation. The world is watching India’s growth as a key player on the international stage.
