
Tokyo, Dec 5 – India’s incoming ambassador to Japan, Nagma M Mallick, sat down with Japan’s Environment Minister, Ishihara Hirotaka, to hash out how the two countries can work together. The Indian Embassy in Japan shared a brief video message on X summarising the discussion.
Earlier that month, on Dec 1, Ms Mallick sent a recorded address to the 16th Indian Scientists Association Japan (ISAJ) Symposium at the Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology (SIST), talking about the scientific and technological partnership between India and Japan. The embassy also highlighted that Dr Sunil Kaul, president of ISAJ, and Dr Masakazu Kimura, president of SIST, opened the two‑day conference with talks on “Circular Innovation for Urban Transformation and Beyond.”
On the same day, India’s Deputy Chief of Mission in Japan, R Madhu Sudan, attended the 25th anniversary of the Center for South Asian Studies (CSAS) at Gifu Women’s University. He joined H.E. Mr. Yasutoshi Nishimura in delivering remarks, emphasizing the depth of India‑Japan relations, past achievements, and future potential. The embassy posted the event on X.
On Nov 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Japan’s new premier, Sanae Takaichi, during the G20 summit in Johannesburg. The two leaders discussed boosting cooperation in innovation, defence and talent mobility, among other areas. Modi called the meeting “productive” and stressed that a robust India‑Japan partnership is essential for a healthier planet. He highlighted that this was the first meeting between his government and that of Takaichi’s, and he announced intentions to strengthen trade ties as well.
