Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wished Australians and Indians a happy Diwali on Monday. He posted a short video on X, saying, “I wish everyone a very Happy Diwali. May this festival of lights bring hope for a bright future and bring you all a wonderful celebration.”
The PM highlighted that Diwali is the sparkle of good over bad, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. His message reached people across the globe, reminding them of India’s cultural vibrancy and the universal call for unity.
Australian officials echoed his sentiments. Foreign Minister Penny Wong posted on X, “As Diwali lights up homes across India, Australia, and the world, we celebrate the spirit of unity, renewal and hope. May this Festival of Lights bring prosperity and peace to all.”
MP John Pessuto added, “Diwali reminds us that good beats evil, light beats darkness, and hope beats despair. It’s a celebration important not just for people of Indian heritage but for Australia’s cultural calendar as well.”
The Australian High Commission in New Delhi marked the day with ceremonies and a special welcome for Minister Anne Aly. High Commissioner Philip Green posted, “Diwali with the High Commission family is always a joyous occasion, and it was extra special this year with Anne Aly’s participation. Wishing everyone a happy Diwali.”
The day’s celebrations celebrated both tradition and the idea that a brighter future is possible for all.
