Homeless illegal immigrant—deported from US twice— allegedly stabs man on Charlotte light rail

A homeless person who had previously been deported is now in custody after stabbing a man on Charlotte’s Light Rail, a few months after the shocking murder of Iryna Zarutska.

Oscar Solarzano was charged with first‑degree attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury, breaking and entering, possession of a concealed weapon, and intoxicated disorderly conduct. He is being held without bond.

The police report says the 33‑year‑old thrust a large knife at a passenger around 5 p.m. on a Friday night and then proceeded to stab the victim, who sustained major injuries.

During the incident, the shooter was heard shouting and slurring his words, according to the officers’ notes.

The victim was taken to Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital where he was treated for serious injuries and is now in stable condition, ABC News reported.

Court documents show the suspect’s address near The Roof Above homeless shelter.

Solarzano is an illegal immigrant who was deported from the country twice, according to the DHS.

Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia Lockwood explained that Solarzano had been removed twice before returning illegally for a third entry. She cited a post on X for further details.

“His criminal history includes prior arrests for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, destroying evidence, resisting arrest, using a false ID, and convictions for robbery and illegally re‑entry,” Lockwood said.

“The criminal foreign national received a final removal order from an immigration judge in 2018 and was removed by the Trump Administration on March 9, 2018.” Lockwood added that “he was apprehended again crossing the border in 2021 and was removed once more. He entered the country illegally a third time on an as‑yet‑unknown date and location.”

The Post could not confirm Solarzano’s full criminal background.

His violent act occurred only months after the brutal slaying of 23‑year‑old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska.

Zarutska, who fled Ukraine amid the Russia‑Ukraine conflict, was stabbed multiple times on Charlotte’s Lynx Blue Line in August by a homeless individual with a record of violent crime.

Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, was identified through surveillance showing him brandishing a pocket knife and targeting Zarutska while she was scrolling on her phone. The footage captured him walking away calmly after slashing her three times, once in the neck.

Brown Jr. has at least 14 arrests in North Carolina since 2007 for offenses ranging from assault and firearms possession to robbery and larceny.

“Another stabbing by an Illegal Migrant in Charlotte, North Carolina. What’s going on in Charlotte? Democrats are destroying it, like everything else, piece by piece!!!” President Trump posted on Truth Social.
