In Tel Aviv, Israeli Knesset speaker Amir Ohana sent a personal letter to former U.S. President Donald Trump. The message invited Trump to speak before the Knesset, calling him “the greatest friend and ally of the Jewish people in modern history.”
Ohana praised Trump for helping secure the release of all Israeli hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7. He also highlighted the historic Abraham Accords, the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the U.S. move of its embassy there, and the U.S.‑led push to shut down Iranian nuclear sites. According to the letter, the Knesset’s invitation would mark the first time a sitting U.S. president has addressed the Israeli legislature since George W. Bush in 2008.
The speaker noted that Israel’s recent achievements come from the courage of its soldiers, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s leadership, and the close partnership Trump built with Israel over the years. He said the U.S. has shown that “peace comes through strength” and that the alliance between Israel and the United States remains unbreakable.
At the same time, the Israeli government approved the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire deal that the United States helped broker. U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son‑in‑law Jared Kushner were present at the Jerusalem meeting where the ceasefire plan was voted on.
These events highlight the close ties between Israel and the United States and the ongoing effort to end the conflict in Gaza while holding onto key security gains.
