Excitement is building in Abu Dhabi as the Supreme Organising Committee shares updates on the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026. Preparations for this massive multi-sports event are moving ahead smoothly, promising a thrilling experience for athletes and fans alike.
The committee recently made waves at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) at ADNEC. They held key talks with UAE sports federations and are set to host a Sponsors Summit on September 17. These steps show how seriously they’re taking this global gathering.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, couldn’t hide his enthusiasm. "The Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 isn’t just about competitions—it’s a vibrant push for active lifestyles, a love for sports, and healthy living," he said. "We’re proud to host it in Abu Dhabi, boosting our status as a top spot for big international events. Get ready for participants from everywhere—we’ll make it unforgettable!"
Mark your calendars: This landmark event runs from February 6 to 15, 2026, right in Abu Dhabi. It’s the first Masters Games in the Middle East and the largest ever in the region. Over 25,000 athletes from more than 100 countries will compete in over 30 sports. Expect a mix of modern thrills and UAE heritage, including six traditional sports that highlight the nation’s rich culture.
The sports lineup is packed with favorites like football, basketball, volleyball, judo, karate, jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, shooting, badminton, weightlifting, table tennis, tennis, padel, athletics, squash, chess, cycling, obstacle course racing, swimming, golf, canoeing/kayaking, sailing, orienteering, triathlon, bowling, netball, rugby, cricket, wrestling, horse jumping, and archery.
Adding a local flavor are Emirati heritage sports: falconry, endurance horse racing, camel racing, dhow sailing, Al Taba, and diving. Plus, the event champions inclusivity—18 sports categories are open to people of determination, ensuring everyone can join the fun.
Competitions will light up more than 20 top venues across Abu Dhabi. Think iconic spots like Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, Zayed Sports City, Al Ain Adventure, the Corniche, Al Mirfa, Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi Padel Kingdom, NYU Abu Dhabi, Hudayriyat Island, Space 42, Erth Hotel, Emirates Palace, Mubadala Arena, Green Mubazzarah, ADNEC, Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, Khalifa International Bowling Centre, Mohammed Bin Zayed City Swimming Pool, Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, Abu Dhabi Falconers Club, and Al Ain Equestrian, Golf and Shooting Club.
