Tragic Shooting at Allenby Bridge: Two Israelis Killed in Attack from Jordan
Emergency teams from Magen David Adom rushed to the Allenby Bridge border crossing between Israel and Jordan on Thursday after a shocking shooting attack. The responders confirmed the deaths of two Israeli men, both hit by gunfire in what appears to be a targeted assault.
Paramedic Bosmat Lubiner and emergency medical technician Amit Weiss from MDA described the chaotic scene. "We arrived with a big team and teamed up with security forces right away," they said. "They guided us to two men who were unconscious with gunshot wounds. We gave them immediate care, including CPR, but sadly, we had to declare them dead."
The victims were a man in his 20s and another in his 60s. They were working on coordinating humanitarian aid deliveries from Jordan to Gaza, highlighting the risks involved in these vital operations.
According to early reports from the investigation, the attacker drove an aid truck to the Israeli side of the Allenby Bridge crossing for inspection. As security checked the vehicle, the gunman suddenly pulled out a weapon and shot the two Israelis at close range. He even stabbed one of them before Israeli security forces neutralized him on the spot.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) quickly launched a manhunt for any possible accomplices. They cordoned off the nearby city of Jericho to secure the area and prevent further threats.
This isn’t the first such incident at the Allenby Bridge border crossing. Just last month in September 2024, three Israeli workers lost their lives in a similar attack when a truck driver from Jordan opened fire on them.
The Allenby Bridge, located near Jericho in the West Bank, serves mainly as a key route for Palestinians from Judea and Samaria traveling to Jordan. Israelis typically use other crossings, like those in Eilat or the northern Jordan Valley, for their trips.
The attack has raised fresh concerns about security at Israel-Jordan border crossings, especially amid ongoing tensions in the region. Authorities are investigating all angles to understand the motive and ensure safety for aid workers and travelers.
