The United Arab Emirates stepped up its support for a major regional rail project during a key meeting in Riyadh. Representatives from the UAE’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure joined the eighth session of the GCC Railway Authority Council at the Gulf Cooperation Council’s headquarters on September 26.
Sheikh Nasser Al Qasimi, the assistant undersecretary for the infrastructure and transport regulatory sector, led the UAE delegation. He emphasized the country’s strong commitment to speeding up the Gulf Railway project alongside other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations. “This initiative drives economic integration, builds stronger social ties, and supports sustainable development,” Sheikh Nasser said.
Under guidance from UAE leaders, the nation continues to back the project fully. It aims to connect transport networks across GCC countries, boost trade within the region, and open new doors for economic growth.
During the meeting, officials reviewed progress on the general agreement to link GCC states via rail. They also discussed an external auditor’s report on past finances, updates from ongoing studies and projects, and plans to join upcoming transport and railway events and conferences.
