Nvidia to keep sponsoring H-1B visas despite crackdown: Report

Washington, Oct. 8 – Nvidia’s boss, Jensen Huang, has told his employees that the company will keep sponsoring H‑1B visas and will pay all related fees. In a note to staff, Huang said, “As one of many immigrants at Nvidia, I know that the opportunities we’ve found in America have profoundly shaped our lives.” He added that the success of Nvidia, built by people all over the world, depends on legal immigration.

Huang stressed that “legal immigration remains essential to ensuring the U.S. continues to lead in technology and ideas.” He referenced the Trump administration’s recent actions, saying they reaffirm this view. “At NVIDIA, we built our company with extraordinary people from around the world, and we will continue to sponsor H‑1B applicants and cover all associated fees. If you have any questions about H‑1B visas, please reach out to NVIDIA‑Immigration.”

In late September, President Donald Trump signed an order that sharply cut the H‑1B program and imposed a $100,000 application fee. Trump said the change was meant to “incentivize hiring American workers.” Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick defended the move, arguing it would discourage firms from hiring foreign talent.

The fee has drawn backlash. A coalition of unions, educators, and religious groups sued the Trump administration in the U.S. District Court in Northern California, calling the fee “unprecedented, unjustified, and unlawful.” They argued that the President can’t alter the statutory framework set by Congress and warned that the new rule could allow selective enforcement and corruption.

Nvidia’s pledge comes amid growing concern about the future of tech hiring and the central role of immigration in maintaining U.S. innovation and competitiveness.
