Nasscom Foundation, IBM to equip 87,000 marginalised youth in India with digital skills

New Delhi, Nov 26 – Today the Nasscom Foundation and IBM confirmed a new partnership aimed at equipping more than 87,000 young people from underserved parts of India with practical digital skills that match industry demands. Under the deal, students will tap into IBM SkillsBuild, a free online portal that offers carefully chosen courses and hands‑on projects in fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics, and career‑development tools.
The Foundation will guide learners through the entire program, ensuring sustained engagement and a solid grasp of the concepts. The curriculum blends interactive modules, mentorship, and structured workshops to nurture both technical aptitude and professional confidence.
“At Nasscom Foundation, we are committed to enabling India’s youth to actively participate in the digital economy,” said Jyoti Sharma, CEO. “By equipping young minds—especially those from underserved communities—with future‑ready skills, career exposure, and clear learning pathways, we open doors that can transform lives and strengthen India’s digital workforce.”
Adding her voice, Sandip Patel, Managing Director of IBM India & South Asia, noted that “skilling is emerging as the new currency of innovation, driving inclusive and sustainable growth. Our collaboration with the Nasscom Foundation reinforces IBM’s commitment to expanding access to cutting‑edge technology skills across areas such as AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.”
The initiative will roll out nationwide through a hybrid model that combines direct partnerships with universities and on‑ground skill‑training providers focused on emerging technologies. This strategy is designed to broaden reach and deepen impact among young people.
In addition, the program merges digital coursework with project‑based training and placement‑linked opportunities, allowing participants to apply what they learn in real‑world contexts. Selected learners will also benefit from mentor‑led sessions that sharpen employability and career readiness, smoothing the transition from classroom to job market.
