A grenade detonated outside a police post on the National Highway in Jaffarabad, Balochistan, on Tuesday, leaving a policeman badly wounded. The injured officer was taken to Dera Allah Yar hospital for treatment. Police cordoned off the area and launched a search to capture the attackers.
The same day, a separate attack hit a checkpost in Khar, a town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Police officer Azad Khan was injured when a fire started at the post. He first went to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar, then to a Peshawar hospital for more advanced care. The officer was eventually declared out of danger.
Earlier this month, attackers set fire to a police station in the Kachhi district of Balochistan and also struck a checkpost in Quetta’s Western Bypass with hand grenades. About two dozen armed men, armed with heavy weapons, destroyed the Khatta Police Station, burning documents, furniture, and stealing firearms, including a sub‑machine gun and a G‑3 rifle, as well as a mobile phone and a motorcycle.
The centre‑based Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) released a new security report this week. It shows Pakistan’s overall violence climbed by more than 46 percent in the third quarter of 2025. During that period, 329 incidents of violence—terror attacks and counter‑terror operations—caused at least 901 deaths and 599 injuries among civilians, security staff and militants.
From January to September 2024, 1,527 people were killed, a 58 percent jump from the same period in 2023. A sharp shift is seen: 505 deaths in 2024 were linked to security operations, while 1,022 were due to terror attacks. In 2025, security forces alone were responsible for 1,265 deaths, making up more than half of the total fatalities.
CRSS highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan accounted for over 96 percent of the country’s violence in Q3 2025. KP experienced nearly 71 percent of all violent deaths (638) and over 67 percent of incidents (221), followed by Balochistan with 25 percent of deaths (230) and 15 percent of incidents (85). Other regions saw comparatively lower numbers of injuries, fatalities and incidents.
