A blast on a Pakistani train injured seven people in the Shikarpur district of Sindh, officials said on Tuesday morning. The Jaffar Express, bound for Quetta, was passing near Sultan Kot railway station when the explosion occurred at about 08:15 a.m. Local media and the Shikarpur Deputy Commissioner, Shakeel Abro, confirmed the incident.
Seven passengers were hurt. Four were taken to the Combined Military Hospital, while the other three went to the Civil Hospital in Shikarpur. The train was en route through Jacobabad when the blast struck only a kilometre from the station.
Passengers were diverted to nearby stations to let maintenance crews clear the tracks. Sukkur Divisional Transport Officer Mohsin Ali Sial said the train’s repair work would start once the route was cleared.
The Jaffar Express has faced a string of attacks in recent weeks. On 24 September, a bomb hit the train in Mastung, Balochistan, injuring 12 passengers — including women and children — and causing six carriages to derail and one to overturn. That blast happened less than 10 hours after another explosion on the main track that connects Balochistan to the rest of Pakistan. The train, carrying 270 passengers, had to stop but was allowed to resume service after security checks.
Earlier this year, the same train was hijacked by the Baloch Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade on 11 March, when it was stopped near Tunnel 8 of the Bolan Pass. The assault left over 400 people as hostages and caused a 24‑hour standoff. The BLA later claimed it had killed at least 20 security personnel during the operation.
The repeated incidents illustrate ongoing security challenges for passenger trains traveling to Quetta and across Pakistan. Authorities are urging travelers to stay alert and report any suspicious activity on railway routes.
