Quetta, Oct. 10 – Human‑rights advocates in Pakistan say that the detention of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leaders has been deliberately stalled for months.
The BYC criticized the country’s Counter‑Terrorism Department (CTD) for not filing the required complaint report even after the last court hearing. The department’s repeated extensions, the BYC says, show close ties between judges and state agencies that slow down justice for the committee’s central organisers.
The detained leaders – Mahrang Baloch, Bebagar Baloch, SibgatUllah Shah Ji, Beebow Baloch and Gulzadi Baloch – were moved to Hudda Jail in Quetta after a lengthy remand. Jail officials now say the next hearing will happen inside the prison instead of the court, citing “security reasons.” The BYC says the move violates basic rights and is a tactic to keep activists in custody longer.
Bebagar, who is disabled and has had two surgeries before, now faces a serious urinary blockage that doctors say needs urgent operation. The jail has not provided the treatment, according to the committee. “This denial of medical care is a major breach of humanitarian and prisoners’ rights,” the BYC added.
The committee urges the United Nations, international human‑rights groups and civil‑society organisations to pressure the Pakistani government to honour its legal obligations. They demand fair trials, proper medical care, and swift legal redress for the detained BYC leaders.
