Shocking Attempted Kidnapping Charge Against Pakistani-Origin Man in Michigan
A 46-year-old naturalized US citizen from Pakistan, living in Wayne County, Michigan, faces serious federal charges for allegedly trying to kidnap a minor child across the US-Canada border. Authorities in Detroit unsealed the complaint against Shahzad Hameedi, who used the fake name Sheraz Hameed while dating the child’s single mother in Windsor, Canada.
The drama unfolded when the mother limited Hameedi’s contact with her young child. Investigators say he then plotted a kidnapping in June 2025, gathering creepy tools like a stun gun, zip ties, duct tape, rubber gloves, a toddler life vest, strong cold medicine, and even a funnel. They also found a laminated ransom note during the probe, plus proof that Hameedi researched tranquilizers to pull off his plan.
Things turned terrifying when Hameedi sneaked across the border into Canada one night. He broke into the mother’s home, tried to strangle her, but she fought him off and chased him away. Just two days later, he returned and assaulted the child, according to the federal complaint.
US Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr., speaking alongside Acting Special Agent in Charge Matthew Stentz of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Detroit, called the alleged plot "diabolical." He said, "No parent or child should ever face this kind of wickedness. We’ll throw the full force of the law at violent predators like this."
Stentz echoed the sentiment, praising the teamwork: "HSI stands with our Canadian partners to protect kids on both sides of the border. I’m proud of our agents, the Windsor Police Service, and the prosecutors who worked non-stop to file these charges."
The case, involving an attempted kidnapping of a minor and cross-border crime, is under investigation by HSI and Windsor’s police. It highlights the dangers of border security threats and the commitment to child safety in Michigan and beyond. Stay tuned for updates as this disturbing story develops.
